5 Tips For Beating The January Blues
It's that time of year again. The weather outside is chilly, Christmas has passed for another year, and it’s back to reality.
However, while the January blues are very much real, you don't have to succumb to them. There are a number of things you can do to get through this gloomy month. Here’s a few of our suggestions:
Take up meditation
Headspace, the popular mindfulness and meditation app, is most likely already familiar to you. Warm voices and tranquil animations are geared to help you fight the blues at work, stress, and anxiety, with guided meditations available. It’s free to use, and you can upgrade services within the app if you find it helpful.
Take part in Dry January, or even take just a week off the booze
Positives of taking a break from your nightly vino include better sleep, more hydration and a lower calorie intake. Not to mention the pennies you could save. Most importantly, you won’t experience any added blues or anxiety that comes from drinking.
Try a new exercise that will make you laugh
Exercise releases endorphins, but you don’t have to drag yourself to the gym each time you want to workout. You can join your local Quidditch team, try hula-hooping, do a musical themed workout, or test out your horse riding skills.
Stay sociable
December is always busy with plans, which can leave us feeling wiped out. However, it’s important to surround ourselves with friends and loved ones and to keep making memories. Find the time to go for walks, sit down with friends to complete the 1000-piece puzzle you got for Christmas, and Facetime relatives.
Be kind to yourself
Talk to yourself like you would talk to a friend, stay away from unrealistic new year's resolutions, and don’t give yourself a hard time for any Christmas weight you might have gained - the tin of quality street WAS worth it.
