Shared Ownership for first-time buyers

At Southern Housing New Homes, we want homeownership to be accessible to first-time buyers. Our Brighton and Hove properties for sale through Shared Ownership offer an alternative to buying on the open market that could significantly lower your upfront costs.

What is Shared Ownership?

Shared Ownership is a government-backed scheme that allows you to buy a share of a property, based on what you can afford. Your first share usually ranges between 25% and 75% and is financed by a mortgage. When you have paid off a larger part of your mortgage, you can then increase the share that you own. This process is called staircasing

A Brief History of Brighton

Brighton is a small coastal city in East Sussex, around an hour's drive from London. The town has a long history as a fishing town and it was first recorded in the Domesday Book in 1086. The name Brighton is thought to derive from the Old English words "brycg" and "tun", meaning "bridge town".

Brighton made a name for itself as a seaside resort in the 19th century, when wealthy Victorians looking to enjoy the healing properties of seaside living built lavish holiday homes and hotels in the town.
