Best places to eat in Hackney Wick

Home to our cool and contemporary Vodion development, Hackney Wick is loved for its vibrancy, artistic atmosphere, andgreat mix of incredible places to eat, drink and gather. Its canal-side location lends itself perfectly to an array of unique pubs, breweries, street food trucks and all sorts of eateries where you can spill out onto the water's edge and enjoy some of the best food in the city.

Wondering where the best places to eat in Hackney Wick are? Here are our favourites:

A cornerstone of Hackney Wick's food and drink scene, Crate seamlessly blends craft beer with artisanal pizza in a fun waterside setting. Housed within a former print works and one of the first breweries to open in the area, the space is full of character, echoing the neighbourhood’s history. A go-to haunt for groups of friends looking for stone-baked pizzas and a fresh pint that couldn’t get any more local. The outdoor beer garden is an added perk that sees swarms of thirsty Londoners looking for a cold beer in summer months less than a 10 minute walk from our Vodion development – what more could you want?

While Hackney Wick may have bragging rights for its ratio of on-the-waterfront venues, Barge East takes things a step further and invites you right onto the water itself, enjoying food that's either sustainably/locally sourced or plucked right from their very own produce garden that spills off-deck and onto the grassy bank. A bit of a Hackney Wick institution - and for good reason - Barge East is one of the best spots in the city for the perfect blend of laid-back vibes, relaxed but delicious fresh food, space to gather with friends and sit outside, and a quality drinks selection with craft beers and fun cocktails.  Not bad for a 10-minute stroll away from your front door.

London's brunch lovers flock to this family-run brasserie and deli serving hearty brunch classics like shakshuka, pancakes and eggs benedict in an intimate setting of reclaimed wood and soft lighting. Later in the evening diners are treated to an a la carte menu of carefully crafted dishes that take your tastebuds on a trip around Europe. Mains range from 24-hour braised ox cheeks to tiger prawn ragu and prove that a lot of care and attention goes into the food. Be there for breakfast, lunch, dinner or all three in 10 minutes from Vodion.

The brainchild of three brothers and a friend who decided to unite their shared passion for the generous hospitality and rustic food they all grew up loving in Northern Italy. The idea was to bring a genuine local Italian trattoria (an Italian restaurant serving simple food) to London, using seasonal Italian ingredients and dedication to the authenticity of the cuisine. And Hackney Wick is the lucky beneficiary of this little slice of the Italian Riviera. Choose from 48-hour proved pizza or handmade pasta made fresh every day on-site. Neither will disappoint. Hop on the bus and live your Italian dreams in just 15 minutes.

Silo is the world’s first zero-waste restaurant, crafting everything from its natural form to cut out food miles and over-processing. The team behind the venture is so serious about sustainability that they mill their own flour, churn their own butter, roll their own oats (which they then make their milk from) right on the premises and they even have an in-house brewery to make homemade natural fermented drinks. Everything from the furniture to the plates has been upcycled from material that would have otherwise been wasted, and the result is a chic, inviting space with earthy tones and natural textures. Silo has a daily-changing, mostly plant-based menu of innovative dishes or you can enjoy a five-course tasting menu. In any case, start with the amazing siloaf and aged butter (with flour milled and butter churned on site). It is worth the venture, just a short 10-minute walk away from the development.

From laid-back breweries to freshly made pasta and plant-based tasting menus, Hackney Wick is a neighbourhood every foodie should know about.
