Spend Summer in Brighton
One of the most colourful and diverse cities by the sea, Brighton is the place to be this summer. With a vibe like nowhere else in the UK, it has something for everyone: vintage lovers and families alike. Here’s our round-up of the must-see stops and activities if you’re visiting ‘London by the sea’.
Brighton Pier
It may go without saying, but come rain or shine, Brighton Pier is always a certainty for a good time. start by blowing off some steam at the bustling pier arcade, a mix of classic coin pushers and more modern air hockey tables. Finish by polishing-off some nostalgic sugar-coated doughnuts whilst enjoying the stunning views of Brighton beach.
Brighton Lanes
Looking to find a hidden gem? The lanes are full of them. These narrow back streets are brimming with edgy independent coffee shops, vintage clothing outlets, bookshops and hidden art spaces, all housed in captivating 16th century terrace buildings. A maze you want to get lost in.
Fish and Chips on the Beach
A true British classic that gets better the nearer you are to the sea. Brighton is filled with places to grab this staple, but none do it quite like The Tempest Inn, possibly Brighton’s quirkiest watering hole. The Tempest is a converted cave right on the beachfront, although during the summer it's the terrace that takes centre stage. Grab a seafront bench and chow down on the tasty seafood-filled menu. Just watch out for the seagulls!
Celebrate Pride
Every year on the first weekend in August, Brighton hosts the biggest Pride festival in the country to celebrate the city’s vibrant LGBTQ+ community, and highlight the struggle of people all over the world in promoting the tolerance and diversity that Brighton is famous for. It’s a weekend of colour, music, love and partying - starting with the parade which goes through the city ending at the festival itself in Preston Park.
Stay at Artist Residence
Don’t want your trip to end? Consider staying at Artist Residence. This regency townhouse hotel on Brighton seafront was reborn when it sent out an ad offering artists free board in return for their services. As a result, each room is a blend of original artist’s murals and eclectic style, some with eye-popping sea views over Brighton seafront and the iconic West Pier.
