Grand Avenue: Veganuary in Hove
Whether you live a completely plant-based lifestyle, or you’re challenging yourself to take part in Veganuary for the first time, there’s almost nowhere better in the UK for delicious vegan fare than Brighton and Hove. The area is jam packed with cafés and restaurants which are more than accommodating for those with vegan diets. It was a struggle, but we managed to pick out our top five.
Happy Maki
If you're in the mood for something quick and delicious, Happy Maki is the place to go. With founding principles based around ‘love and truth’, this vegan sushi spot serves up a variety of colourful and flavoursome rolls, including the ever popular "Brighton Bomb", filled with avocado, cucumber, and crispy tofu. They also have a great selection of vegan sides, including miso soup and seaweed salad.
A 30-minute wander along the promenade gets you there from Grand Avenue.
The Flour Pot Bakery
If you have a sweet tooth, The Flour Pot Bakery is a must-visit. This vegan bakery is known for its amazing pastries, including croissants, muffins, and breads, all made with high-quality, plant-based ingredients. They also have a small selection of savoury sandwiches and lunch items.

17 Grams
If brunch is your thing, 17 Grams has got you covered. Suitable for those following a vegan diet and meat eaters, this low-key coffee spot serves one of the finest vegan breakfasts in the local area, as well as other vegan staples such as banana pancakes and asparagus hash.
It’s a 15 minute bus ride from Grand Avenue, Hove.
Botanique
Botanique is a vegan restaurant located in the Western Road area of Hove, just 12-minutes from Grand Avenue on foot. It offers a seasonal menu of plant-based dishes, made up mostly of interesting small plates, designed for sharing. Fortunately, there’s nothing small about the famous Botanique Sunday roast. Comprising of three vegan options, the Celeriac Steak with Black Peppercorn & Pickled Blackberries is a winner, and the white wine & thyme gravy brings the dish together superbly.
It's little more than a 10-minute walk from Grand Avenue.
