London is renowned for hosting some of the best markets in the world for everything from food to flowers, to antiques and crafts. Around Christmas, the London market scene explodes into twinkling lights and mulled wine aromas, with the city’s most creative makers showcasing the perfect Christmas gift ideas.

Here are our top picks for London’s indoor Christmas markets to keep you warm as you soak up the festive cheer this silly season.

 

1. Borough Market

One of London’s most popular markets all year round. And it certainly doesn’t take a break for Christmas. Decked in twinkling lights and decorations, Borough Market looks like something straight out of a Christmas movie during the festive season. It’s a food haven, with hundreds of London’s finest street food stalls and plenty of mulled wine and cider to warm you up. This year’s  annual ‘Evening of Cheese’ is back on 13th December, promising a festive cheese-themed shopping extravaganza led by a community of cheesemongers. It’s less than a 20-minute walk from our Shared Ownership and Open Market Sale homes coming soon to the New Kent Road.

 

2. The Big Hackney Flea

The Big Hackney Flea is a long running vintage and antique market, that often holds events all over London. With a range of over 50 vendors selling their quirky and unique vintage finds it’s the perfect pace for Christmas shopping when looking for someone who likes to live outside the norm. With vintage furniture to piles of knick knacks, it’s also a great spot to shop as someone that may have just moved into a new home. Held this time Abney Hall, on the 16th and 17th  December, it’s just a 25-minute commute on the tube from our Hackney Wick homes at Vodion.

3. North London Makers' Market

The North London Makers' Market is one of the best markets in London for showcasing artists’ talents in all forms, while also keeping things affordable. With over 120 stalls , expect to find everything from independent ceramics, illustrations and photography to homeware, jewellery and  food products. For those who love to rummage, there will also be a small flea market selling vintage records, books and clothing. Immerse yourself in the London creative scene as a live DJ soundtracks the festive atmosphere among street food and mulled wine stands.

Afterwards, it’s a 30 minute ride on the bus back to homes at Arcadia View, Lower Clapton.

 

4. Christmas Under the Canopy

Dive headfirst into the festive spirit at Canopy Market in King’s Cross, where twinkling lights create a starry canopy overhead as you peruse the stalls. Explore artisanal produce, seasonal treats, and a variety of street food. With over 50 makers and designers, the market offers a diverse range of gifts, from jewellery and art to homeware and even presents for pets. A mix of British and international music talent, including jazz, blues, and folk, is set to serenade you as you browse.
