Old Street Travel
This Zone 1 hotspot has it covered
Situated between the City and Hoxton’s buzzing nightlife, Old Street is the perfect place to explore London’s past and present. This technological hub resides in the heart of London. If you’re lucky enough to live and/or work in the area, then you’ve got a great selection of transport options on your doorstep.
Tube
You are spoilt for choice with tube stations in this area. Not only do you have Old Street Underground Station, which caters for all your Northern Line needs, but you are also within walking distance of Moorgate (10 minutes), Liverpool Street (12 minutes) and Barbican (14 minutes).
Old Street’s central location means that you can dash around the capital with ease. Head to King’s Cross St Pancras (5 minutes), London Bridge (5 minutes), Holborn (11 minutes) and Leicester Square (11 minutes) in no time at all.
Overground
Old Street also benefits from a well-connected Overground as well as an Underground Station. From Old Street, you can whizz to Moorgate (2 minutes), at one end of the line, to Highbury & Islington (6 minutes), Finsbury Park (16 minutes), Alexandra Palace (18 minutes) and right up to Hertfordshire on the other.
Alternatively, you can walk to Hoxton (15 minutes), which then gives you access to the London Overground Line. From here, Dalston (4 minutes), Whitechapel (6 minutes) and Peckham (20 minutes) are mere minutes away.
Bus
The beauty of the Old Street roundabout, or Silicon roundabout as renamed by the local tech community, is that there are a plethora of buses en route to every far corner of London.
Flag down a double decker and head to the culinary delights on London Fields (19 minutes, bright lights of the West End (Tottenham Court Road, 21 minutes) or nearby pubs on the Clerkenwell Road (9 minutes).
Bike
You can hop on to a Santander Cycle right outside Old Street tube station, next to St. Luke’s Church. There are 16 bikes up for grabs, with many more docking stations in the surrounding area.
These bikes are perfect for those looking to visit destinations off the tube/bus route, avoid rush hour tubes, or simply want the burn off their delicious Whitecross Street Market lunch.
