Pubs in Godalming

Pubs are a staple of British culture, a place for meeting friends and enjoying a hearty meal with family, and there’s something about a countryside pub that hits differently. Godalming, where our Ockford Park homes are located is full of some fantastically rustic public houses, we’ve compiled some of our favourites:

Stag on the River
Just three minutes down the road from Ockford Park is The Stag, a beloved local pub with a truly cosy atmosphere; think battered armchairs by a warm fireplace. It has a wide selection of beers and ciders on tap, making it the perfect place to relax and enjoy a pint or two. With starters including Sussex Charmer cheese soufflé and a delightful range of roast options including rosemary roasted leg of West Country lamb.

The Star
Known as a locals’ favourite in the area, and just a five-minute drive from Ockford Park, The Star feels just like home. Offering a “no-frills boozer” (their words not ours), that’s just perfect for settling into a seat and enjoying the snug atmosphere inside. Loved by all that pass through its door, the pub has been open since 1832, winning many awards over the years, including the CAMRA Regional Cider Pub (Surrey & Hampshire) for a record-breaking six years in a row.

Fox and Finch

Set right in the heart of idyllic Godalming, just 5 minutes away from our homes at Ockford Park, The Fox and Finch is equipped with a stylish and laid-back atmosphere. Changing seasonal dishes accompany the pub classics and bar snacks (the ox-tail nuggets aren’t to be missed) and a thorough selection of beer on tap rounds off an extensive menu. When the weather’s good, step outside to the lovely beer garden and patio or stay inside for regular screenings of live sports.

The Refectory
Originally a cattle barn, the Refectory has been completely transformed to feature open fires and rustic exposed wooden beams to create a homely, cosy feel. On top of the delightful atmosphere, you’ll also find plenty of cask ales, and an enviable collection of whiskies. The menu features some exciting twists on classic pub grub with the likes of roast pheasant breast stuffed with wild boar and apricot. It’s just a short four-minute amble from our homes at Ockford Park

The Merry Harriers
The Merry Harriers is a quintessentially English countryside pub with a roaring fire, paisley covered wooden booths and a wide selection of beers and ales on tap. The menu is thoughtful, with a “focus on high quality local ingredients and a little foraging here and there” you can feel the connection they have to the Surrey countryside throughout everything that they do. If it's a staycation you’re looking for, there are various boutique rooms available – then again, it’s only a 10-minute drive away from our Ockford Park homes.
